Konstanz ist für den amtierenden Champion auch im Coaching Staff angesagt. Mit Benjamin Sobotka (D-Line) und Thomas Tippold (O-Line) werden die zwei Meister-Trainer von 2022 auch für die aktuelle Saison in der European League of Football weiter verpflichtet.
An der Line Of Scrimmage vertraut das Wiener Franchise auch 2023 auf die Coaching-Expertise von Sobotka und Tippold. Erster wird in der aktuellen Season auch Assistant Head Coach fungieren, was den Cheftrainer sehr freut. „Coach Sobotka is wise beyond his years and lives, yet breathes Vikings football. I couldn’t have a better DL and Assistant HC. We have the deepest Defensive Line in the European League of Football, and the head of these monsters is Benji. No doubt, Coach Sobotka is one of the great young coaches in Europe,“ so Vienna Vikings Head Coach Chris Calaycay.
Dass Benjamin Sobotka auf vielen Levels herausragend coachen kann, hat er auch 2022 abermals unter Beweis gestellt. Der 27jährige Wiener, der viele Jahre selbst als Outside Linebacker aktiv war und 2014 die Vikings Football Academy abgeschlossen hat, durfte nicht nur die European League of Football Trophäe in die Höhe stemmen, sondern sich auch über den österreichischen Meistertitel als Head Coach des Vikings U18 Teams freuen. Zusätzlich vertraut auch das österreichische Herrennationalteam auf seine Talente, wo er ebenfalls die Defensive Line betreut und zahlreiche Vikings – wie zum Beispiel Balogh, Kranich, Müllner, Grünsteidl, Schmahel oder Sudi – in seinen Reihen hat. Zum Drüberstreuen ist er auch Teil des Trainerstabs der Vikings Football Academy.

Sobotkas Vorfreude auf die 2023 Season ist genauso riesig wie die Motivation seiner D-Liner: „With a year of ELF experience under our belt, I´m looking forward to seeing us compete and hunt down quarterbacks this season. Except for one starter we are going to return every single starter from last year. I can ensure you: The guys are very motivated and they cannot wait to get back on the field!“
Coach Sobotka schlug das lukrative Angebot eines anderen Franchises aus, zu stark sind die Purple Bande hier in Wien, zu groß seine Liebe zu den Vikings: “The Vikings have a very special place in my heart and to get the opportunity to help defend the European League of Football title is a great honor for me. After 2022 I´m really excited to be part of this unique team once again.”
OL Coach Tippold geht in seine 24. Saison als Viking
Ein wahres Vikings Urgestein ist Thomas Tippold. Als Spieler war über ein Jahrezehnt eine tragende Größe der Purple O-Line des Vereinsteams, konnte zahlreiche Austrian Bowl Siege sowie Euro Bowl Erfolge für sich verzeichnen, coachte im Nachwuchs sowie im Division Team. 2022 dann der Schritt in die European League of Football.
Nun geht Tippold in seine 24. (!) Saison als Viking – Die Vorfreude auf den Saisonstart ist aber ungebrochen groß wie am Anfang seiner Karriere: „After being a part of this program for such a long time, I am excited to return to the Vikings for my 24th season.“
In seiner Unit kann Coach Tippold wieder auf bekannte Gesichter bauen, die auch Grundsteine des Erfolgs 2022 waren. Mit Aleks Milanovic, Lukas Holub und Matthew Daltrey sind drei Fix-Starter der Vorsaison wieder verpflichtet worden. Ben Rab, David Rauter sowie Clemens Walz und Matthias Stockamp (beide hatten leider in der Vorbereitungszeit Seaosn Ending Injuries) sind auch heuer Teil der Offensive Line des amtierenden Champions. Zwei weitere O-Liner, deren Verpflichtung noch nicht bekannt gegeben wurde, komplettieren Tippolds Unit.
Die Devise ‚Tielverteidigung‘ hat auch Coach Tippold gänzlich verinnerlicht: „I am happy to see most of our players coming back, as they are a very talented group of veterans and young players that already have a lot of experience playing on Europe’s highest level. This group carries a championship mindset and was an integral part of our success last season. So I am looking forward to help them reach the goal of repeating in 2023.“
Auch Vienna Vikings Head Coach Chris Calaycay hat tiefstes Vertrauen in seinen Unit Coach sowie in die von Tippold trainierten Männer an der Line of Scrimmage: „We have an incredible OL this year and added talent and depth that will be led by our long time Offensive Lineman Thomas Tippold. Our offense will be going through a change this season, but having that consistency staying with Coach Tippold will allow us to continue to win that important battle up front – each and every game.“
